LA SPEZIA, “WORLD CAPITAL” OF THE BLUE ECONOMY
"The maritime economy sector is experiencing continuous growth, and La Spezia remains a national leader, as shown by data indicating significant progress," announced Pierluigi Peracchini, mayor of La Spezia, citing figures from the economic report of the Chamber of Commerce of the Ligurian Riviera. He emphasized, in particular, "The maritime economy generates an added value of 1.145.3 million euros in La Spezia, confirming the city’s third-place ranking in Italy and showing a notable increase from 812 million euros in the previous year. La Spezia is the leading Italian province in terms of the density of Blue Economy enterprises." He added, "Furthermore, the province has risen from second to first place in the incidence of shipbuilding exports on the total provincial exports.
It ranks third in Italy for the share of added value generated by the Blue Economy and fourth for employment share, with an increase from 12,183 to 14,411 workers. Finally, it holds fifth place for the absolute value of shipbuilding exports, totaling 641.5 million euros." He added, "La Spezia is recognized as a world capital of nautical design and production, being home to the creative and manufacturing headquarters of the world’s leading yacht and superyacht brands, with over 14,000 people employed in the Blue Economy."
He concludes, "We continue to support this sector through projects like the Blue Mile. This is a plan aimed at creating an increasingly competitive nautical district at the international level to integrate all the key players in the sector. Moreover, one of the goals is to foster strong collaboration between research centers, universities, educational institutions, and production companies, making La Spezia a hub for design and the production of unique products, capable of being prototypes and drivers of innovation. It is essential to continue investing in this area, which plays a significant role in the growth of our city and the entire province of La Spezia."
